The Haab, the 365 Day Cycle The Haab is the second level of the Mayan Calendar. It is 365 days in length and corresponds to the orbit of Earth around the Sun. It consists of 18 months of 20 days each and 1 month of 5 days. Refer to the Haab Chart above. The Mayan name for each month is listed along the top of the chart. The 20 Solar Cycle of each month is shown in each column. Note that the 20 Day Solar Cycle doesn't necessarily start at the beginning of the cycle. The day of the Solar Cycle that appears on the top is the day of the Solar Cycle that the Spring Equinox occurs on. Near Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, there is a special Mayan temple called Dzbilchaltun. This temple is located in a very specific spot. As the sun rises on the Spring Equinox, the light of the Sun shines through Dzbilchaltun and passes through openings in the temple. About a hundred yards from the temple to the west is a column of stone. Only on the Spring Equinox will the light of the rising Sun shine directly on the middle of the stone column. Using this temple, the ancient Maya would determine the exact day of the Spring Equinox. Another interesting phenomenon about this temple is that the first Full Moon following the Spring Equinox rises at exactly the same place as the Sun rose on the Spring Equinox. An interesting note here is that Easter celebrated by the Christian religion is the first Sunday following the first Full Moon after the Spring Equinox. The 26,000 year Grand Cycle, the Pleiades, and the Photon Band ![]() The Pleiades Constellation as seen from Earth The Maya were aware of their close connection with the constellation Pleiades and the orbital path of our Solar System around the star Alcyone, the Central Sun of the Pleiades. The Pleiades is also known as the Seven Sisters. From our vantage point, we see the Pleiades as 7 stars. Actually there are 8 stars that make up the Pleiades and our Sun is the 8th star of the Pleiades constellation. The entire constellation, including our entire Solar System, forms a vast spiral in the Milky Way Galaxy. It takes about 26,000 years for our Sun to travel around Alcyone. The Maya refer to this as the Grand Cycle. There is a band of light that runs through Alcyone that extends out into the spiral. As our Sun travels around Alcyone, it goes in and out of this Photon Band. Our Sun passes through the Photon Band for about 2000 years and out of the band for about 11,000 years. The entire cycle consists of our Solar System passing into the Photon Band (2000 years), back into the Galactic Night (11,000 years), in again (2000 years), and back out (11,000 years). The Sun is orbiting Alcyone and the Earth is orbiting the Sun. As a result of this fact, the Earth makes contact with the Photon Band before the Sun does. As the Sun approaches the Photon Band, the Earth goes in and out of the Photon Band until the entire orbital path of Earth is within it. On the Spring Equinox, the Earth is at its closest point to edge of the Photon Band. Around the Spring Equinox of 1987, after about 11,000 years in the Galactic Night, Earth re-entered the Photon Band, beginning the completion of the Grand Cycle. The orbital path of the Earth caused the Earth to stay in the Photon Band for 1 week in 1987. Each year, the Sun draws closer and closer to the Photon Band. In 1988, the Earth was in the Photon Band for 3 weeks. In 1996, Earth was in the Photon Band from about Jan 18th to May 23rd. Each year, the amount of time increases until the Winter Solstice of 2012 when the entire orbital path of Earth is in the Photon Band which is the completion of the Grand Cycle. This is also the date which the Mayan Calendar ends. As the Grand Cycle nears completion, something very interesting is also happening in the Pleiades constellation. The star Maya is the 3rd star of the Pleiades constellation. The star Maya passes through the Photon Band for about 2000 years and out of the band for about 1,200 years. It's orbital path around Alcyone is shorter since it is closer to Alcyone. Our Sun will enter the Photon Band in 1998 and become completely within the Band by 2002. As our Sun leaves the Galactic Night and enters the Band, the star Maya also enters the Photon Band. These two stars are synchronized at this time. As the star Maya returns to the Photon Band, the Mayan Beings of Light are returning to Earth to assist us as the Grand Cycle comes to completion. Grand Events are about to occur and Ancient Wisdom is returning to Earth. Know that you have all chosen to be here on Earth at this time to experience what will be. The Debate about the Alignment of the Cycles First, the Dreamspell Calendar and The Mayan Calendar are not completely the same. They both are based on the Tzolk'in, the 260 day cycle of Solar and Galactic energy interaction. The 20 day energy cycle is coming from our Sun and the 13 day energy cycle is coming from the Galactic Center. Thus 260 combinations of these energies occurs. Both systems are in alignment about the 260 day cycle. Long before the Julian and Gregorian Calendars were established, the Mayan Calendar was well established. Since the concept of a leap year was introduced by the Julian Calendar, it seems very unlikely that the Mayan Calendar would embrace the concept that the cycles would not advance on 'leap day' since 'leap day' did not exist at that place in linear time. The Mayan Calendar is oriented to 52 year cycles. In 52 orbits of the Earth around the Sun, 73 Tzolk'in cycles (260 day) occur. After 52 years, the Maya would acknowledge 13 special days before the next 52 year cycle began. This corresponds to the 1/4 day of time each year that the Gregorian calendar uses 'leap day' to correct for. In the Mayan Calendar, the 13 special days every 52 years keeps the calendar in alignment with the seasons. In the Gregorian calendar, the extra day every 4 years, keeps it in alignment with the seasons. In December of 1995, I had the great honor of discussing the calendars with Hunbatz Men from Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Hunbatz is a Mayan shaman and Daykeeper who has been taught by his ancestors about the Mayan Calendar. He told me that José Argüelles, who brought the Dreamspell Calendar to us, was not in agreement with 'the longcount'. The longcount is the count of days and cycles that the indigenous Maya have maintained since they established their calendar, generation to generation. As far as I know at this time, the Mayan daykeepers did not skip leap day. Furthermore, according to Hunbatz, the Dreamspell Calendar is not off by just 1 day, but 97 days according to my calculations. He also told me that to consider the 260 day cycle of the Tzolk'in without considering the 365 day Haab cycle was incorrect. (The interaction of the Tzolk'in and the Haab is the basis of the 52 year cycle.) In support of José Argüelles and the Dreamspell Calendar, I have this to say. José recognized the great force of the Gregorian calendar to move us away from Natural Time and the honoring of the energy cycles. This has had a very detrimental effect on our Mother Earth as humanity has been drawn further and further away from Nature and our roles as humans, guardians of Mother Earth. I feel that skipping leap day in Dreamspell Calendar serves to remind us of the artificial basis of the Gregorian Calendar. It is my understanding that José feels that February 29th is an artificial manifestation of the Gregorian calendar and therefore it does not exist in Natural Time. On February 29, 1996, the Sun did rise and set, but the Dreamspell energy cycles did not advance. For me personally, it was a very unusual day and I felt an energy unlike any other day. I do feel that the energy cycles of the Dreamspell calendar are still in alignment with its energy, an energy which urges us to return to a place of honoring Mother Earth and a return to a unified humanity. In conclusion, I feel it is more important to acknowledge that the 20 day cycle and the 13 day cycle are real. I visualize these energies as waves of energy that are present every day. What we are really talking about here is the phase relationship of these waves. Certainly, it would be the best we were both at the same frequency and phase of the waves. We are at the same frequency of the waves, 20 days and 13 days. To make an analogy to music, let's say we have 2 different instruments playing the same note. Each instrument creates a wave at the same frequency. Even if the phase of the wave is not the same, we still hear it as the same note and the energy of the 2 waves are aligned. To me, it is more important to be at the right frequency. When I found out that my Galactic Signature was Blue Magnetic Night, I resonated very strongly. I sat and cried in joyful rememberance. I have worked through the calculations both ways, skipping leap day and not skipping leap day. The only way it comes out that my birthday is Blue Magnetic Night is when I skip leap day in the calculations. I feel the portals on the portal days predicted by the Dreamspell Calendar. I am content to honor this resonance from within myself rather than embrace someone else's position about the phase of the 20 day and 13 day waves. The return of the Ancient Times and the restoration of Mother Earth Time is not linear. We have been taught to think of Time as only going forward, from one point to another. I think it is more accurate to think of Time as a spiral, as cycles. In an ancient time, our Mother Earth was pristine and all of her life forms lived in harmony and honor. It is possible to heal the Earth and restore Her to her pristine state by merging the Ancient Times with the present. To accomplish this, we must first rid ourselves of the limitation of believing that Time is linear. The Mayan and Dreamspell Calendars can assist us greatly in coming to a greater understanding of Time. It is something that must be experienced. It is difficult to put into words because our language lacks the terms to express the nature of Time. We create our Reality. For whatever reason or purpose, the mass consciouness of humanity is embracing linear time and creating a very limited reality. As each of us shifts out of the mass consciousness, it helps to change the whole. Love and Honor your Mother Earth. Receive the Galactic Synchronization Beam from the Sun. Sing the song of your Soul. Listen to your Heart.
